The stone came first, and it looked like an egg.
This leopard skin jasper cabochon was hand-cut and high-polished by an Arizona artist — a more expensive stone than most in this collection, and worth it. The mottled, earthy patterning in the jasper is what set the concept: I chose beads with a textured, mottled finish to extend that surface into the bezel, so the whole piece reads as one object. Then I hand-stitched a pewter dragon onto the setting — not a simple task with a charm that wasn't designed to be sewn — wings spread, coiled over the stone like it's been guarding this particular egg for a very long time.
Strung on a double dark chain.
